Q: What should I wear to a Prep Clinic?
A: We want you to be YOU! Wear what you feel comfortable in and can showcase your best self! Its always helpful to wear something that stands out!
Q: How often do you practice?
A: During football season, we typically have two 6am practices and two afternoon practices each week, along with two workouts, runs, or lifts in addition to full team practices. Our spring schedule usually consists of two 6ams and 3 evening practices.
Q: Do you compete?
A: Yes! We compete at NDA nationals each year in April in Daytona Beach, FL.
Q: What do you look for in a dancer?
A: Well-roundedness, adaptability, strong technique, strength in movement/ motions, confidence, endurance, quick learning, kindness, humility, a team mindset, passion!
Q: What skills do you look for?
A: Triple and Quad turns, elite turn sequences, tilts, toe touches, calypsos, switch leaps, specialty leaps and jumps (switch tilts, switch arabesque, turning disc, punch out, butterfly), leg hold turns, ariels, and walkovers are some of the skills typically evaluated.
Q: Do I need tumbling skills to be on the team?
A: Tricks evaluated on the score sheet include aerials, kip-ups, and headsprings. Extra points are given for skills such as front aerials, handsprings, or running tumbling.
Q: When are tryouts?
A: Tryouts typically happen the end of April or beginning of May. We base these dates off of our Nationals dates.
Q: What do I wear for tryouts?
A: Females should wear fitted black shorts or leggings & a fitted black or red top. Males should wear a red, black, or grey t-shirt/tank & red, black, or grey shorts. Jazz shoes/ half soles must be worn for technique & jazz portions! Gameday makeup, hair pulled back neatly!
Q: Are members allowed to be a part of other organizations/clubs?
A: Yes! Many of our dancers are also involved in sororities, honors societies, and other campus clubs. It's definitly doable, but it's important to remember that dance team is expected to remian you top priority along with academics.
Q: What does a normal practice schedule look like?
A: Mondays are small group lifts. Tuesdays & Thursdays usually consits of warmup, technique, and a lift or dance circuit workout. Wednesdays & Fridays are dedicated to gameday material with Wednesdays also including a campus run, sprint workout, or technique.
Q: Will not having a skill hurt my chances of making the team?
A: No single skill will determine whether you make the team. What matters most is showing strong training/technical background, potential, and a willingness to push yourself and grow.
Q: If I am a transfer student, can I tryout?
A: Yes, transfer students are welcome to tryout!
